Debussy to a disco beat

Mystery, camp, longing and disco rolled all into one in this epic track by Johnny Mathis. The soaring strings, reflective of something by Debussy or Ravel, in the intro (which, by the way lasts way too short) accompanied by a thriving bassline and a feverish “bleep” make the way free in our imagination and associative brain for something Oriental, sweet-smelling, an orchid-filled courtyard a rising full moon, like gates opening to the profound and intense longing that the melody and lyrics of this song have always made me feel goosebumps all over. Do not let anyone ever say that disco is dead.
